Depression & Chiropractic Care

Some Symptoms of Depression:

  • Sadness (from mild to extreme)
  • Low energy/lethargy/sometimes described as a constant fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Muscle tension
  • Headaches (from mild to migraine)
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Disrupted sleep patterns (too much or not enough)

The Vicious Cycle:

When you feel lousy in your body, you will soon feel depressed in your mind. Once your mind is involved, your emotions take a hit, and you feel worse in your body.

The Healing Cycle:

As your body responds positively to chiropractic adjustments, you start to find mental clarity, and emotional balance, which lead to a healthier body.

Holistic Treatment

Many people taking medications for depression don’t experience relief from this illness that attacks them physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, a large number of people are finding greater relief when they add chiropractic care to their traditional treatments.

A common question when patients come in to find answers to their ongoing depression is: How long will this take? This answer is: it depends. People suffering from intense depression will take longer to find the relief they seek. Those with mild depression will respond more quickly.

If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms of depression, call our office at 507-775-2711 to see how we can help you.

Chriopractic Care for Swimmers

Why are more coaches all over the country, including chiropractic care for their competitive swim teams?

It improves joint flexibility.

Increases the athlete’s ability to do strength training

Increase in times – when a split second makes the difference, this is a big deal – some new records are being set by swimmers who include chiropractic care as a regular part of their training.

Faster recovery if injured. When a muscle is strained or a joint sprained, spinal adjustment returns the body to balance, relieving pressure on the nerves and the injury itself.

Here’s one of the many teams incorporating chiropractic care into their normal training: August 25, 2011 http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/n/v.cgi?c=1&id=1314249281

What if you aren’t a competitive swimmer?

Chiropractic care can help you too. Lap swimmers and aerobic water exercisers report the same improvements in their exercise routines when they are seeing their chiropractor regularly.

Call 507-775-2711 to see how we can help you,

Run!

If you’re already a runner, you know that while running is great for your body, but it’s also hard on it. Whether you run for pleasure, to exercise your dog, or long-distance, without the proper care, your joints will “wear and tear” more quickly.  You need more than good shoes.

How does chiropractic care help runners?

Adjusting spinal subluxations balances the body at its core.  When this happens, range of motion in the joints is improved, allowing muscles to be strengthened, and increasing a runners coordination. This leads to increased endurance, speed, and enjoyment, while protecting the joints from wearing out.

If a runner is injured, they normally heal faster because when the spine is aligned, not only do their joints and muscles respond, but so does the healing power of the body itself.

How often should a runner see a chiropractor?

That depends on the runner. If he or she has had regular adjustments, their time between treatments might be longer. However, some people need to be adjusted more often than others. The only way to know is to talk to your doctor.

If you have questions about running for fitness or long distance, give me a call at 507-775-2711. I run regularly and have trained and participated in a few marathons. I can offer you excellent chiropractic care as  your doctor and and encouragement as a runner.

When you add chiropractic care to your life, you will notice an improvement in the way you run.

Postpartum Chiropractic Care

While a woman is pregnant, she has a reason to stay healthy: her unborn baby.

After delivery, her attention turns completely to her new little one, and she is no longer focused on taking care of herself. After giving birth, a hormone called relaxin keeps her ligaments soft for about six months, increasing the possibility of lower back, pelvic, and joint pain. She’s also holding and carrying the baby which puts stress on her neck, upper back, shoulders, and arms. New moms are sleeping less adding to their physical tension.

Moms with newborns need chiropractic care.

The adjustments themselves are important, but when the ligaments are still soft is the best time to work toward correcting long-standing spinal problems.

Looking for a different gift for the new mom in your life this Mother’s Day? Why not give her the gift of chiropractic care? She can bring the baby in for a free consultation, because newborns need adjustments, and it’s never too early to get started.

Help Preserve a Life

Every day I treat patients who have experienced the powerful connection between chiropractic medicine, and their own body’s ability to respond to it. Their result is improved health and in some cases, healing.

Every day you live with, work with, or interact with people in pain. Maybe it’s migraine headaches, a sports injury, or they’re among the sleep deprived because their baby or child is in pain.

Here are some ways you can help someone you know who is suffering:

  • tell them your chiropractic story
  • invite them to Byron Family Chiropractic’s Half-Hour to Health (call the office at 507-775-2711 to find out when our next event is) and come with them – having you, there will make them more comfortable.
  • let them know they can schedule a free consultation to see how chiropractic care can help them
  • share your story with us so we can post it here on the blog by emailing your story to me at byronfamilychiropractic@gmail.com

When you tell others about your positive chiropractic experience, you offer them the opportunity to feel better and accomplish more in their lives.

You never know whose life you might be preserving.

Carpal Tunnel

What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)?

When the median nerve in the wrist gets compressed.

The Symptoms:

Burning, itching, tingling, and/or numbness in the palm of the hand, thumb, index, and middle fingers, as well as weakness that makes it difficult to pick up small objects or make a fist.

Some patients also experience a feeling of swelling although none is present. Others are unable to tell the difference between hot and cold by touch.

What Causes CTS?

Injury to the wrist can result in CTS. Other causes include diabetes, hypothyroidism, arthritis, and repetitive hand movements during work. This is a partial list, and it’s best to set up an appointment to find out what could be causing your wrist  pain.

How Is It Treated?

My first step is to x-ray the wrist. Next I adjust the wrist.

Depending on the patient, I will also recommend a combination of these treatments:

  • Resting the injured hand and wrist
  • Avoiding activities that may be causing the symptoms
  • Applying cool packs to help reduce swelling

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms call our office at:             507-775-2711.

Please don’t use the information provided to self-diagnose. It’s important to get an x-ray before an official diagnosis can be made.

If you’re in pain, I hope to hear from you soon. As with all injuries, the sooner you get treatment, the better.
